about The Wave project

The "Wave" project is a piece conveying the feelings of isolation and struggle. Depression & Anxiety can feel as though we are under water and cut off from our well being. And yet we still move and flow in a more unique way. During the Covid pandemic, being cut off from normalcy of day to day life, along with other people, was both tragic and healing.
For this piece I would practice in my garage by working on my movement and painting as fast I could. In total, 5 ladies were created(see photos below). The final piece(5th one) was created on site along the shore line of Lake Michigan in Winthrop Harbor, IL at dawn. Project concept was a collaboration with Helainie Callahan, & myself. Evan Knutson did filming and editing. Helaina choreographed her dance part. The Music "Wave" by Beck, set the mood and tone of the piece.
